Dianne Angela

Olongapo, Philippines

Tell us something unique about you.

"I stand 5 feet. and 8 inches tall."

I’m a Graduate student, sister to three, and raised by ever supportive parents. Born in Olongapo City and now I'm staying in Manila because of my work. I describe myself as faith grounded, has a balanced well-being, and in spite of the fact that eating is my favorite hobby, I have the talent not to gain weight.

In terms of uniqueness, well I think it's pretty normal to put yourself in tears when you laugh really hard. I'm very interested to any course correlated with mathematics but it doesn’t love me back. I’m very passionate about memorizing commercial jingles and singing to Disney songs. I stand 5 feet and 8 inches in height. I find myself tall but I never imagine joining to beauty pageants or in any sports. I'm not interested into fashion, but I feel naked without my earrings on.

Your Librarian Journey:  Why did you choose to become a Librarian? What makes you happy in this Profession

"Destiny brought me in becoming a librarian."

Everything started when I was in college; I have to work as a student assistant in return to my Scholarship. I was assigned in the library, rendering certain number of hours in a day doing library services.  Days had passed and I was getting more interested and curious about everything in the library.  I began to love helping people find a good book, searching through card catalogs, and getting hang of it made me finally realized I wanted to enroll Library and Information Science.

I passed the Librarian-Licensure-Examination in the year 2013 and worked in different types of libraries. My first job was in a School library, then I moved in a Public library and presently I'm working in an Academic library. I work as an Acquisition Librarian in UP College of Science.

Aside from the opportunity to serve people, librarianship makes me happy when I get to save researcher’s time from searching through oceans of data, I bet any librarian does. Nothing is more fulfilling than seeing my clients feeling satisfied with my work.

What makes you feel sexy? Attitude, Hobbies, Sports, etc..

I’m the sexiest when I’m happy.

I feel sexy when I get to spend time with my love ones ; to wake up every morning next to my parents and be able to cook and prepare meals for them; to simply receive ‘thank you’ from my siblings and have the chance to make them feel how much I care. I feel sexy when I dance to music. I know how to sing a little bit but I think it would be fun to sing in-front of a crowd. It’s undeniably feel sexy to be surrounded by positive people and constantly learn new things. In addition, I love wearing my black dresses. But most importantly, to get involved in the church service and being able to use my talent to serve and glorify God.

Impossible to Possible : The Library That Has No Rules and No Boundaries

"Books can change the World and It starts at Mang Nanie's Home."

Hernando Guanlao or "Mang (which means elder) Nanie" is a Filipino senior-citizen and currently lives in a two-story apartment with his family from the big City of Makati in the Philippines. Mang Nanie is a 66-years old gentleman who made his home an instant attraction in the City.

He converted their small front yard to a place where you can borrow a book, feel free to read anything, explore with no boundaries, where no one will have to yell to keep you silent or even try to scold you for eating and drinking at the same time  and for more than 15 years, Mang Nanie and his library gives hope to the people , especially to the young unfortunate children that there are still plenty of splendid things in this world which you can call Free.

His actions made him viral in the social media when someone posted a picture of his good deeds in the internet which caught everyone's attention, make him an inspiration, and join him to his cause.

Mang Nanie got an interview with World Remit organization.

The No Rules , Free Reading Library

My home, My books are free to everybody,
Talk to me, see me, enjoy my place. This is my Mission,
and I don't have to charge them for reading my books.
- Mang Nanie Guanlao

This is a big signage in-front of Mang Nanie's House

Mang Nanie coined the word "Librery" (Library)
Libre (means FREE in Filipino/Tagalog)
He said, Education is a right, a privilege and must/should be Free
to enjoy by all Filipinos.

Free Books, Free Education

The news reaches the heart of a Filipino-librarian from Australia who also sent an email to the World Remit organization to help Mang Nanie in getting book donations for these young children and indigenous people of the Philippines which are the Aetas.

Trisha M. Pan is one of the young children in the Tribes who received the book donations. Everyone in the tribe wishes that this project continuous so they can finish their education or they can be proud of accomplishing something because of this project.

A cookie in-exchange of books .

Ysabelle Irabon , a grade six student who wish to be someone like Mang Nanie  in helping others by asking for book donations. She was totally amazed by the cause to help the less fortunate children in the Philippines with educational books. She started collecting from her own library, ask help from her friends who are willing to donate used and new books and other people from the community who also wish to bring happiness to Mang Nanie's Library. It really sounds interesting that Ysabelle gives a cookie for anyone who donated their books to her.

Ysabelle is only one of the many people who was inspired by the good values showed by Mang Nanie.

"Something so small can start a really big thing and Everybody would be willing to Help"
- Ysabelle Irabon

Giving without asking anything in return, just simply to make them happy.
- Mang Nanie

Routines and daily task usually changes over time for some reasons like moving to another section or service area.
In academic libraries or libraries in Universities and Colleges, Approximately,  there are 5 sections that are very vital to the service.

Circulation Section - The Librarian manages the borrowed and returned/unreturned materials. Also prepares the client's book identification card, fines and obligations.

Technical Section - The Librarian prepares the materials to be borrowed. From acquisition, delivery and encoding/ownership

Multimedia Section - The Librarian supervises the use of computers, audio-visual materials, digital-electronic resources , multimedia rooms and discussion rooms

Periodicals/Serials Section - The Librarian handles the everyday printed collections like newspapers, magazines, journals, also the E-journals and the like.

Reference Section - The Librarian responds to ready-reference questions, referrals, phone-calls, library outside visitors and prepare library users statistics.

It may also change depending on library priorities, deadlines and change in work schedule.

Librarians are different kinds.
Librarians are hired depending on knowledge and skills expertise.
Librarians can work from different kind of organization from being a Schools Employee to a Company Staff to a Government Employee.

It's very important that Librarians must know how to handle work alone with minimum supervision. The fact that they are Information Resource Specialist they must be ready to deliver the right service , on the right time and on the right place.

The School's Bestie : 5 Reasons why the Library is your Best Friend!

by RcMunoz June 8,2018
Hope you enjoy reading!
***************

Summer ends too fast and School will be opening soon!
Surely, I will miss so many things during vacation.

"I will miss staying late night in my friend's house"
"I will miss being lazy and staying in bed all day"
"I will miss the new adventures."

It's really hard to let go of Summer routines.
But School is a place where actually new adventure begins...

Buying new clothes, new school supplies, new bag, new shoes,
Arranging your room for a more convenient space to learn,
Meeting new People in School,
Adding more savings from your allowance.
Finding a new Crush,
or looking for a Best-Friend.

In School, sometimes it's really hard to find someone who fits your standard to call them as your Best-Friend but it doesn't mean it can't be something like a place, a hobby, a pet, a food or a book.

There's actually lot of place in School where you can say
"I belong here",
"It makes me happy",
and "I don't mind staying for quite long"

and mine's the Library.

so here are the 5 Reasons why the Library is my Best Friend!

1. Don't talk much : Don't ask much too.

I always enjoy being around with funny and nice people.
I'm not an introvert  but sometimes it gets me irritated from friends who talks too much about themselves.(as if I care!)
We all have dramas and things happening in life but don't get me wrong, I'm not your diary. I would be more interested if you get those stories published.

I love reading fictions, I see myself reacting  without someone caring about my opinion.
When I'm reading, I imagine. I put myself in the character's shoes and it gives me a feeling how to be like them for a second.

Books don't talk and don't answers back! That's why I love being with them.

2. They are Helpful. Always there when you're in Need.

Nowadays, Libraries offer different kind of services to their clients. As well as the librarians, they are not the typical boring ones.

The Library helps me to pass my subjects last semester and I'm hoping they can give me much support this School Year.

I get to make friends with the librarians in our school, they are very accommodating and have a good sense of humor too.

3. Gives you Comfort and Peace. Helps you think clearly and see things on a wider spectrum

Our Library is big and spacious, I can almost sit anywhere. Hiding between the shelves is my favorite spot.  I love checking out the new fiction books, sometimes I ask the librarian to notify me when are they coming. It makes me happy to smell the new books and feel the smooth cover of it.

It feels very relaxing,
It gives me a break from school works.
I love it when they turn the A.C into a higher level,
That's so cold, It feels like I'm in my bedroom,
That's why I always bring a jacket and sometimes my pretty yellow blanky to make me feel cozy.

4. You can ask random Questions and get answers without getting Offended.

I can almost find all the answers to my assignments in the Library. From books, eBooks to audio visual materials and digital/electronic resources.

The librarians make me feel comfortable that sometimes I ask too many questions and request from them, fortunately I never got rejected. They offer the right services, on the right time, on the right place.

5. It Never Leaves You.  It has always been there for you.

Last year was something memorable for me,  my best-friend since grade school left to migrate Abroad. I got so sad. It seems half of my enjoyment in School went missing.

Our favorite thing to do is sharing the books we read and how amazing the story goes.
We both love reading the new books in the Library, in the same spot I used to stay now, between the narrow shelves of the old fiction books. The A.C above us made us feel comfortable to sit on the carpet, laugh hard, talk about dreams, share our secrets and scare ourselves to the possibility that we're still two different people chasing very unlikely dreams in life. I want to be Teacher back in our province, she wants to take International Studies.  Our friendship is very special and it never ends there. Now, I'm really excited to open my email from her because she sent an e-book attached to it. It's her new favorite novel from Jay Asher. I wonder what it is.

It gets me more excited to head back to the library and download e-books to my gadget, also the internet connection there is really good and it's the trend now.
The Library is my favorite place in School. I love everything about that place. It brings back good memories with me and my best-friend. But no worries, I know that she's in a happy place right now.
I wonder how good is the library there abroad. I will visit her soon after College and we will visit all the good libraries, museums and parks.

It's time for me to go to sleep now. Tomorrow, I'll be able to see the new books already. I hope everything is still the same in that place because the Library is like my second home and it feels like my best-friend is just beside me.
