Shhhh... My Mom is a Librarian.

I have a story to share,
something most people don't know.

My mom works,
She works in the School

No, she's not a Teacher.
No, she doesn't work in the Registrar.
Definitely,  she's not the Principal.

She is a Librarian!

Yes! my mom is a Librarian by profession
Even my friends do not know.
They knew she cooks and prepares snacks for them.

Because growing up, my mom never left the house for work.
She does the house chores most of the time; She's a Housewife now.
And seldom we had conversations about  her being a student nor her past life before she got married and have kids.

Let me tell you something about her,
My mom was a Librarian,
She graduated with a Bachelor Degree of Education major in Library Science.
She was a Scholar.
She lives in a very big Family.
Her parents went abroad.
She never took the Board Exam  to be a professional teacher or a librarian

She worked in a University, also in special libraries  with Engineers
She got married and have 5 grown-up children and grandchildren
She works everyday with no rest days.

She was also into sales, that's what I remember.
She was helping my dad with our business.
I don't even  know how she gets paid.

My Mom is now in her 50's and she's getting old.
I believe she's the most simple, kind and outgoing person I know.

I think only few people can relate how living with a Librarian mom looks like.

Let's get to meet profiles of unique and incredible young individuals and their stories of  being a Librarian in the 21st Century.

Dianne Angela

Olongapo, Philippines

Tell us something unique about you.

"I stand 5 feet. and 8 inches tall."

I’m a Graduate student, sister to three, and raised by ever supportive parents. Born in Olongapo City and now I'm staying in Manila because of my work. I describe myself as faith grounded, has a balanced well-being, and in spite of the fact that eating is my favorite hobby, I have the talent not to gain weight.

In terms of uniqueness, well I think it's pretty normal to put yourself in tears when you laugh really hard. I'm very interested to any course correlated with mathematics but it doesn’t love me back. I’m very passionate about memorizing commercial jingles and singing to Disney songs. I stand 5 feet and 8 inches in height. I find myself tall but I never imagine joining to beauty pageants or in any sports. I'm not interested into fashion, but I feel naked without my earrings on.

Your Librarian Journey:  Why did you choose to become a Librarian? What makes you happy in this Profession

"Destiny brought me in becoming a librarian."

Everything started when I was in college; I have to work as a student assistant in return to my Scholarship. I was assigned in the library, rendering certain number of hours in a day doing library services.  Days had passed and I was getting more interested and curious about everything in the library.  I began to love helping people find a good book, searching through card catalogs, and getting hang of it made me finally realized I wanted to enroll Library and Information Science.

I passed the Librarian-Licensure-Examination in the year 2013 and worked in different types of libraries. My first job was in a School library, then I moved in a Public library and presently I'm working in an Academic library. I work as an Acquisition Librarian in UP College of Science.

Aside from the opportunity to serve people, librarianship makes me happy when I get to save researcher’s time from searching through oceans of data, I bet any librarian does. Nothing is more fulfilling than seeing my clients feeling satisfied with my work.

What makes you feel sexy? Attitude, Hobbies, Sports, etc..

I’m the sexiest when I’m happy.

I feel sexy when I get to spend time with my love ones ; to wake up every morning next to my parents and be able to cook and prepare meals for them; to simply receive ‘thank you’ from my siblings and have the chance to make them feel how much I care. I feel sexy when I dance to music. I know how to sing a little bit but I think it would be fun to sing in-front of a crowd. It’s undeniably feel sexy to be surrounded by positive people and constantly learn new things. In addition, I love wearing my black dresses. But most importantly, to get involved in the church service and being able to use my talent to serve and glorify God.

Female Librarians are often tag as boring, old, classic, and simple. Nevertheless, we are talking to the Librarians before the World War II.

More and more young girls are looking for a very smart job nowadays!

Guyabano Wine : Benefits and Reviews (ft. Doc Atoie's Guybano Wine)

Disclaimer: This article is based on some claimed medicinal purposes of the product mention below.

Guyabano fruit is rich in carbohydrates, dietary fiber, and Vitamins C, B1, and B2. Additionally, guyabano has high flavonoid content, which can help inhibit the growth of viruses, and allergens. Now you can enjoy all the benefits and taste of guyabano concentrated into a rich wine that slides down your throat as smoothly as silk and leaves you wanting for more.

In addition, guyabano has been scientifically and traditionally proven to have great natural benefits. It helps lower fever, spasms, heart rate, and blood pressure. It also helps relieve pain, inflammation, and asthma

Stay healthy with DOST-developed guyabano supplements & tea

Green, pulpy, sweet, and healthy. That is guyabano for you.

Guyabano (Anona muricata), or soursop as it is known in English, is a small tropical fruit tree bearing a sweet heart-shaped fruit with a soft-spined green outer skin and soft pulpy white flesh. It has been refreshing people for a long time as a fruit juice, flavoring, puree, tea, or eaten as it is. It is being widely cultivated in Central America, some sub-Saharan parts of Africa, and in Southeast Asia, the Philippines included.

But aside from being rich in carbohydrates, dietary fiber, and Vitamins C, B1, and B2, do you know why it is very good for you? Studies by the Chemicals and Energy Division (CED) of the Department of Science and Technology’s Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) show that guyabano generally has high flavonoid content. Flavonoids are phytochemicals that have been found to inhibit or even prevent the growth of viruses, carcinogens, and allergens.

These are just the few benefits that the DOST-ITDI aims to harness as it develops and promotes guyabano as a natural dietary health supplement. Traditionally, guyabano has been consumed by diabetics to lower their blood sugar, and tests showed that it even outperforms Metformin, the most commonly used maintenance drug of diabetics, in lowering blood glucose levels.

Hence there is the need for a better and more convenient packaging for guyabano to strengthen its marketability.

ITDI’s CED, while adhering to WHO standards, processed and packaged guyabano fruits and leaves into 250 and 300mg capsules or in two-gram teabags. “Thus, guyabano capsules and tea bags are now more convenient to use. They are standardized and naturally processed, and thus guaranteed safe,” says Annabelle Briones, CED chief science research specialist.

In addition, guyabano has been scientifically and traditionally proven to have great natural benefits. It helps lower fever, spasms, heart rate, and blood pressure. It also helps relieve pain, inflammation, and asthma. Consuming guyabano extract can also safely prevent cancer cells from forming while effectively slowing down tumor growth. It also helps stop the growth of harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, even as it stimulates digestion and stop convulsions.

At the ITDI, CED researchers performed thin-layer chromatographic fingerprinting and phyto-chemical screening on the guyabano extract to determine its chemical makeup. They also tested the fruit for anti-microbial capability against Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, and other common bacteria strains, as well as for acute toxicity.

They used the Folin-Ciocalteau method to determine the antioxidant content of the leaves and fruits. After the screening, the researchers confirmed that the guyabano extract used was relatively free of pesticide residues, heavy metals, molds, and salmonella.

“We also discovered that the green unripe guyabano fruit contains more flavonoids than the yellowish ripe fruit. The leaves meanwhile are rich in tannins, fats and oils, unsaturated steroids, and triterpenes, and again, more flavonoids,” Briones said. “Therefore, all these properties really make guyabano an ideal health supplement.”

So it seems like it is not just an apple a day that could keep the doctor away, but guyabano too!
